I recently picked up a SZ and was going to take the surface down to 600 grit wet sand to take a little length off of it and get a little earlier reaction. Any of you guys change the surface of yours?
Right now it's pretty much OOB 800 grit.

I don't personally know anyone who has taken the surface *down* on their Strike Zone. Rather, they've done the opposite; they've had the surfaces brought *up,* to try to get the ball to be cleaner in front. Even smooth or with some shine on it, the Strike Zone is *strong.*

I took the surface of mine down to 400 grit wet sand, and it's awesome. I can play straight up in the heavy, and as it breaks down, move left and swing it. This is by far the best oil ball I've ever had. I'd recomend buying this to anybody.

Sup Fatboy8. The SZ is a great ball for oil. It's an Ultimate Inferno
that you can tune to your liking. This ball is very smooth but revs up nice.
Keeps the pins low and shreds the rack.
I have used it shiny lately but have tried it sheen once or twice. You have to have a of
oil to use it dull. Out here on the west we don't see floods. So that's why i have it shiny. He hee.
You made an excellent choice and i hope you try out other Brunswick Balls.
The Absolute is a great compliment. When there is carry down the AI is the ball to go to. Seriously.

My whole arsenal is Brunswick. They match up better than anything I've used. Big B 4 Life!

I took the surface of mine to a 1200 grit becuase it was breaking too early. That's mostly because I bowl on wood lanes and don't see enough oil for a duller surface.

Most people do take the surface up, because the core/cover combo is just so strong. Keep in mind however that the finish that one can obtain using a spinner is usually higher than the factory puts out. This is not just a matter of my opinion, I have a spinner and have tried to take a ball back to box finish using the posted oob surface and had a higher finish result. I have also heard one of Mo Pinel's assistants at a seminar say to the pro shop owner, that although the TS&A 's factory is listed at 400, to get that grit, one should sand to 320 grit.
