Some of you remember I picked up a Super Cuda/C Pearl and a Cuda/C Pearl off Craigslist awhile back. I finally got the thumb moved on the Super and have been to able to throw it twice now.

First, let me say how great the carry is on this ball. I started with 5 in a row right out of the pro shop.

Second, is it just me or is there a very distinct sound when the balls strike? I always heard that was true about Legends/Lanemasters balls, but the strikes sounded different to me with the Cuda. Maybe it's the Ceramicore, which I also heard break drill bits. Anybody else who can vouch for the strike sound or am I crazy?

No it's not just you, seems all the Ceramicore balls sound like that when they hit pins. Some of the balls with the Titanium cores make the same sound too.

I'm reviving this dead thread I started because I stumbled across this info tonight. I still think the Ceramicore is the bomb! Funny how you don't see any of these balls pop up for sale often...

Ceramic Cores

Why use a ball with ceramics?

Improved hitting power
Placing ceramics in the core of the ball significantly improves the ball's hitting power by raising the coefficient of restitution (COR - the amount of energy transferred from the ball to the pins) .

How does it work?
Ceramics hit harder because no energy is reabsorbed by the ceramic part of the core. Non-ceramic core balls absorb energy from the pin at contact.

More controllable and predictable flare
By placing ceramic cores in outer cores, the Rg can be significantly altered along one of the axis' without any substantial change to the other axis. This allows flare to be controlled more easily in addition to making it more predictable.

Fired ceramics repel energy
Fired ceramics are not drillable thus they cannot be altered during drilling. What you start with is what you end up with.

Millable ceramics absorb energy
Millable or alloy type ceramics consist of ceramic powder mixed with a binding agent and made at the ball manufacturing plant. This is then placed in the core and is much softer and less adhesive than fired ceramics. Millable or alloy ceramics absorb energy rather than repel it, thus they have a lower COR than fired ceramics.

your list didnt include the piranhas. i have all three, orange, blue and green pearl ceramicore. i still throw all three and you are right about the distinctive sound. if you can find one of the piranhas anywhere i highly recommend you try one, they are great balls.

Thanks. I copied and pasted this from somewhere. I wonder if anything else is missing?

I've always wanted to try the Pulse and wonder how it would work on today's THS.

That list also left off the Cuda/C 2000, the pearlized remake of the original Cuda/C. There's one of those and a blue Pulse for sale over at my local Goodwill right now. There was also a Secret Agent, Pyro, Roto Grip RS-X, and a C300 FlipSide Wired if I remember correctly. I grabbed an og Black Widow that was sitting there with them but left the rest. Now I'm thinking I might want to go back for the Cuda at least.

Pearl Pulse will still work on todays typical med. THS, there are several in my area that still throw Pulses, along with Messengers as well.

IMO, those ceramic cores were some of the best hitting/carrying balls of all time, the Pulse series and the Boss series rank right up there with Big B's Zone series, and I think the C300 stuff was better throughout the whole lineup than the Zones...

I'm throwing a red pulse I found nib a few years ago, its extremely good, needs some oil though, good first ball to compliment my teal pro on medium-light conditions.
