I found what appears to be a green dot on Ebay. Does anyone know any information on this ball?

IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY, and it does at times, this ball was somewhat "special" back in the day.

It may be the rare and elusive Black U-Dot with the FLEXEL (reactive) cover.

Back when the urethane U-Dots were ruling the lanes, Columbia300 released an issue of them that had FLEXEL covers instead of just straight urethane.

You could tell them by their green spots and their factory green lettering. The regular Black U-Dots had black spots and white lettering.

If that is what it is, and I would bet that it is, it is (by todays standards) a very mild, three piece reactive.

You may, or may not, ever find the information about that ball in an archive somewhere, it is just something I remember from back then.

For just a bit more info, look here: http://123bowl.com/ball.cfm?ballid=523

It does look similar to the reactive U-Dot that's in the link you provided, except that that ball also has a black dot.

Is the one with the green dot a test ball or something?

Now that is a question I cannot answer for sure, but I wouldn't think it was. The ball looks to "normal" to be a test ball, and C300 used to just brand their test balls with just large capital letters, not fully branded labels.

At first, I wondered if it was a BUDII, but then I noticed it still had only the large C logo on the side of the ball, so it is still a ball in that original U-Dot series.

I seem to remember some of the early SHADOW series of balls having a green pin and letters, but they also had the SHADOW name on them instead of the giant C logo this one has.

I honestly think that, given the appearance of the green "pin" and the large offset C logo on the side, that this is the elusive FLEXEL reactive U-Dot.

I'm not sure if there is ANY way to be absolutely sure short of being able to trace the original serial number, and since C300 was bought out by Ebonite, I highly doubt that you could ever even do that.

Yeah, this is a U-Dot reactive. The only one I'm missing from my collection. I got the Wine U-Dot, Slate Gray U-Dot, U2, BUD 2, Shadow, Shadow/R and both Vectors. From what I heard, it's the same thing as a Shadow/R but I doubt that's true.
