Re: ball speed & rev rate

If a person leaves solid 5's, their rev rate does not match

meaning either (1) rev rate is to high paired with speed to slow, or , (2)speed to highpaired with rev rate to low???

or would leaving solid 5's be an indication of one or another?

Re: ball speed & rev rate

Matching your ball speed to rev rate is not as important as matching the ball layout to the bowler.

Both. If the rev rate is high, ball speed low, the ball will go into it's forward roll too soon. If the speed is high, rev rate low, the ball will not get into it's forward roll soon enough.

The later seems to be my issue. I have been told I have a fast release but do not generate a lot of revs. Now the question is which is better and/or easier try and slow my release or increase my revs

Re: ball speed & rev rate

never heard of a solid "5". cant be a solid hit if the ball doesn't hit what it s supposed to ( 1 3 5 9 )
still most of the time my ball finishes a little to the left of the 9 pin unless i get out of it bad and i see the ball go through the 3 phases. does that mean ball speed /rev rate match?

Generally speaking, it would be easier to decrease your speed.

Increasing one's rev rate is possible depending on the reason you're losing or cannot create the necessary rev rate for your ball speed. Key to increasing rev rate is relaxing your thumb in the ball. If the bowler tends to squeeze, a whole slew of undesirable events will occur.

I like to use baseball pitchers as examples of how to release an object. If a pitcher wants to slow down the rotation of the baseball, he'll do one of two things. One is, he'll throw a knuckle ball, that's the equivalent of squeezing a bowling ball. When we squeeze a bowling ball, it causes the thumb to turn down and or the wrist to break back.
