I use powerhouse clean and dull, been using it for years. Takes belt marks off with little issue.

Re: Ball cleaner

I was using the Lane Master cleaner for years then I switched to Kegel's Revive. Both work good. The Lane Master cleaner has a much stronger odor. I've actually been asked to wait until a bowler left the area before I cleaned my equipment! Then the manager at the pro shop I go to told me to mix 1/3rd water, 1/3rd alcohol, and 1/3rd Simple Green. I've just started using that combination and it seems to work very good, without the odor of Lane Masters.

Re: Ball cleaner

The best cleaners on the market are Clean and Dull and Neo-Tac's Hook-It.
Clean and Dull's procedures makes it difficult to use at the bowling alley where you should use it immediately after bowling and before you put your balls back in your bag.
Both are allowed to be used ONLY outisde (before or after) sanctioned competition.

The 2nd tier of good cleaners are all water based but you are allowed to use them during competition:
Valentino's Remedy, Vise cleaner, Zapp It, Knockout, and Genesis Intense.

Personally I use LMB International's Extreme High Performance ball cleaner. It is the best for use during competition but is no longer being produced. I happen to have stocked up on it before it was discontinued. It is alcohol based but is much stronger than any plain household alcohol. In my own tests, it actually removed dirt and rubber than acetone could not remove.

If you even use a 2nd tier cleaner, religiously, immediately after bowling and before putting your balls back into the bag and you wipe oil off your ball during bowling, you will almost never be able to extract oil because the ball will have absorbed so very little.

When I first got my ball oven, NuBall, I tested it on many of my personal balls, even ones I have been using for 10+ years, and could not get any oil out of the balls. I thought something was wrong with NuBall, until I tried several of my teammates' balls, who do not follow the regimen that I do. NuBall definitely got loads of oil from all their balls.

Re: Ball cleaner

I just used the motiv gel cleaner and it is an extremely good cleaner. I used to use powerhouse cleaner but i was away from the game for almost a decade and now there is so many different cleaners out there i wanted to find the best one. Motiv gel cleaner took the belt marks off with ease and left the coverstock super tacky which i like.

Re: Ball cleaner

I have been using "Ol Roys" since Roy sold it, been a sponsor for this web site since then and I will continue to use it as long as they make it. I think it does a fine job of cleaning a bowling ball and you don't need rubber gloves or a mask to use it. Both cleaners work real good for what they were designed to do, no I don't get paid from 'Ol Roys"

Just try it...

How do you know this is most effective? What test have you done to prove your claim.

Re: Ball cleaner

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time and money trying out several cleaners, and all of them work to a certain extent. Some are better than others. What I have found is that for removing dirt and conditioner, a plain white terrycloth towel will do a great job of letting you know how effective your chosen cleaner works.

After trying that out, I discovered something else: a simple mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol and common clear (white) household ammonia - both approved as cleaning agents by USBC even during play - did the best job for me.

I usually mix the two in a 33% ammonia to 66% alcohol ratio, and that's been pretty effective on all surfaces and does not shine nor dull a surface.

It's cheap, it's easy, and it's approved by USBC. A lot of people have asked me for my little formula and most tell me it has worked well for them.

Thinking maybe he should have added, "for me", but whatever. 91% alcohol & simple green @ a mixture rate of 75% alcohol / 25% SG here. Was given this mix by an old timer here, but @ a 50/50 mix ratio. I've been using for a few years now "after bowling sessions end" and see no need to change, as it works for me. If sitting for some time, it does make small clear crystal rocks in sprayer bottle though, and have asked about that, but no one seems to experience same. Might give the ammonia/alcohol mix a try, but ammonia always has affected me in a nauseous sort of way.

Thanks for that Tommy, even though I don't make it anymore. I did develop it, and my nephews are making it to my specs. And thanks to all my past customers here. I'm still tinkering, working on "jell" cleaner that will be the same as Front 9 (now Early Shift) Enjoying the hell out of my retirement!

or your overall health. MEK is highly explosive, even from great distances from an ignition source. Not to mention illegal to use at any time per USBC.

Just a FYI:

While Ammonia and Alcohol are USBC approved individually for anytime use.

The mixture of the two has never been submitted for testing & approval, So technically The mixture of the two is NOT USBC approved! for any use either before or after bowling.

The same is true of the simple green and alcohol mix that is so popular.

I appreciate your concern, but I have spoken to USBC rules, and they tell me because they are individually approved, it's fine.

Interesting I and I know others have asked the rules dept. about this before and they said it isn't.

So I asked again, here's the reply that says no they are not:

Question to USBC Rules dept:
Are homemade cleaning mixtures which are made of mixes of USBC approved for anytime use cleaners legal to use?

Example Mixtures: Alcohol and Ammonia, Alcohol and Simple Green

Thank you

Answer:
Hello ,
Thank you for your question. The products listed on the approved cleaners list were approved in the formulas and concentrations that they are distributed in, not in combination with other products. It can be dangerous and harmful to mix chemicals, and is not something that is recommended.

Thank you,

A while back I bought two 32oz bottles of Remedy Rx from Valentino Bowling at a pretty good discount. I still have about 3/4 of a bottle left and it's been a quality cleaner for me.

Re: Ball cleaner

I use Motiv Ball Cleaning Gel. I like the gel used on my spinner. It is not recommended for using at the lanes because it does not evaporate like liquid cleaners but I can attest that it cleans the heck out of my balls. I have tried quite a few but this is the best in my humble opinion!
