Am I crazy or are the Quantums back?

I was watching the women NCAA final and there was a young lady throwing a Forest Green Quantum...

Are these back permanently? May have been my favorite ball of all time. The one I had was "borrowed" from a friend for a short while, but besides the Yellow Dot and the Black Hammer, this ball was incredible.

The Forest Green and the Red Fire Pearl have been out for awhile now.

I wish they were being offered in less than 14lb. Currently they are only being sold in 14-16

Re: Am I crazy or are the Quantums back?

Just watched a video or two about it. I always loved two piece construction over 3 piece and even 4 piece balls. Note in the Brunswick video, they said the two piece balls last longer. I agree! When you have different densities in a multiple core ball, you will have cracks and separation and the more pieces you have i.e. cover, outer core, inner core and sometimes another core for a four piece ball, you have multiple pours just increasing labor costs.

One reason three piece balls crack, with the exception of pancake core balls, is when the ball is stable a.k.a sitting in a bag, the weight of the different cores play against each other, and the heavier core always wins. A lot of times you have cracking and splitting. I have never seen that in a two piece ball like the original Hammers.

From my limited experience, balls seem to mostly crack because the cover stock contracts as it drying out. I've seen this with Storm/Roto balls a few times, but especially with the older Lane Masters/Legends two piece balls. The LM/Legends balls might not actually crack, but they can definitely shrink over time.

Re: Am I crazy or are the Quantums back?

I've had a forest green sitting in my closet for a few months. Need to put holes in it and see what it's all about. I had a Sage growing up that I loved.

Do you have any experince in urethanes and resins? How can you prove that cracking is due to "drying" of the coverstock?

This is why I'm throwing Storm now. I dropped to 13 lb equipment so my fingers wouldn't hurt after bowling (it's not a fit issue, it is arthritis, but I feel great now after dropping weight)!

Same reason I throw Motiv, but may have to start looking elsewhere now that Motiv is making less high differential balls.

The "drying" is an assumption on my part. The actual shrinking(in diameter) of some bowling balls is not...

Curing. Bowling balls continue curing long after production. All are susceptible to cracking, drilled and undrilled. Cores and covers.
