Ball De-Oiling

Will scuffing a polished ball cause more oil to be extracted during the de-oiling process or will leaving it polished allow the same amount to be extracted?

Re: Ball De-Oiling

I think scuffing helps open up the pores on any ball, polished or dull.

True, I never scuffed up a ball before and oil sweats out just fine.

I always scuff the surface before baking.

The original idea for scuffing the ball first was just to "open" the pores that had got blocked by ground in dirt/grime/rubber etc Because .the "Hot Water & Dawn" method of de-oiling, which isn't vary efficient was about the main (safe) way of de-oiling at the time.

Which given if you bowled in a center where the balls came back pretty dirty all the time with rubber marks etc. and if you didn't alter (or refinish) the surface of your ball often. It probably wasn't a unreasonable idea at the time.

Now today with the more efficient de-oiling methods, it might no longer be needed.

But if your going to resurface your ball anyway, there's no reason not too.
