Columbia 300 Messenger Cherry question

I know this is an old ball but wanted to see if these were ever produced with serial numbers. There was a question of he legality of this ball tonight in league. Since there was no serial number on the ball I was wondering if these were ever produced with them. I believe serial numbers weren't even required until around 2006 so this would be important. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Columbia 300 Messenger Cherry question

The Messenger Cherry Pearl is on the USBC approved ball list as of Feb 2001. As you stated this ball wasn't made with a serial number but other companies did have them before they were required. Any league official should be able to easily pull up this info and see it's an approved ball to put any doubt to bed.

They were produced with serial numbers. Refer to this page for a picture of where the serial number was engraved (on the label underneath the Columbia 300/Made in USA logo)

Does it depend on the version of the Messenger? I didn't have one of the 2 I had but they weren't the Cherry Pearls.

It was in the same place on the Green Messenger. Here is an eBay auction of a Green Messenger, you can see the serial number on the ball in one of the photos.

Re: Columbia 300 Messenger Cherry question

If I'm not mistaken, USBC REQUIRES a/the serial number. AND, if the ball has been resurfaced or damaged it where the number is illegible, must be engraved in full or the ball isn't legal for USBC competion.

Cut and paste below from page 6;http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn....s/ESManual.pdf
