Negativ Axis Tilt....

Hey guys...

half years gone now for me.
there was a time my ball was rolling over my thumbhole.
after that time i had a normal release....
did my game(s) doesnt care about oil ring anymore....average now at 175/180....
but later i found a little bit shocked that my oil rings are 4-5 finger away from my thumbhole.

i tried from my point everything to change back to "my" normal release.
but nothing helped.

my PSO have now bowlerid.

and what a surprise....

my AXIS TILT iS -5

someone can help with tips to change the tilt?

Is your average better or worse now?

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

I can't really say because i don't can't say when this starts.

Iam a beginner since 8 months now and average is still rising.
So I can't really say. My next goal is reaching the 600 club.
And iam really close (and always pissed when I suck clearing the needed spare)

When I didn't hit perfect the pocket that the ball is digging through the pins it looks like the ball easy deflects to the right.

For fun I throw sometimes two handed.
When I did this my rings are half inch away from the holes.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

As a relatively new bowler, you'll have to ask yourself a simple question, what style of bowling do I like best? Switching back and forth from style to style will hinder your progress. Once you've answered that question, you can begin to elevate your game to it's maximum potential.

But, to answer your question about your new axis tilt measurement, you are over rotating the ball. Therefore, you are spinning it too much. Let the ball fall through the swing naturally, resist the urge to turn it before it gets to your ankle. Let the thumb slide out of the ball, rotate the ball with your fingers. It takes split second timing to make it happen.

i dont need to ask myself, because no question iam a right one hand bowler and will never switch to 2 handed.
it "happens" only for fun and this fun starts most time when i throw the ball of my girlfriend or her father when their balls are guilty about their score ;P
my thumb doesnt fit those tiny holes. thats it.
and as i "lost" my oilrings i tried to find them back

iam honest, i dont understand really what you mean with over rotating the ball

do you mean my axis rotation is too much?

Because he doesn't understand what is going on.

Are you nude thumb, 2 handed or put your thumb in half way? The track is now 4 to 5 fingers to the right of your thumb holes? This is very common to the bowlers that I mentioned above. Tom Smallwood is an example of someone with neg axis tilt.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

Tom Smallwood is full roller, way different than what the op is describing. But, we've had similar discussions before.

Bowling release technique is random, if it knocks down pins, it's correct(?) We cannot recognize if it is good or bad as long as the ball reacts a certain way on the lanes. What if it were a football (American football...)? Would a wobbly pass be considered good?

PinKing, to help in the understanding of what I said, your one hand release is the equivalent to spinning a football like a helicopter. You're twisting your hand prematurely. Let the ball fall through the swing to the release point, then let it roll forward.

There are a lot of elements to releasing a bowling ball correctly. Mostly, it is the byproduct of a fundamentally sound approach. The two handed approach is significantly different than a one hand. That's why I would recommend to committing to one style or the other.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

before i fall over a language barrier here....
we play with family.
just for fun. and when dad said: ehhwww this ball is shit, doesnt hook enough, doesnt have enough power (and stuff like that)
THEN i said: gimme, ill show you.
this times i only throw "other balls" that a: doesnt fit or b: i cant get my thumb in there and throw it 2 handed. my own balls fit really nice for now.
and i was only wondering why i have the oil rings 1/8 / 1/4 inch near to the thumbhole and throwing one handed 4 finger far away.
nothing more or less
.....

my actual video is uploading now. to bad it is not side view. only rear.

here is one from summer. not perfect, but i think doesnt look that bad for 3 months of play with your 1st Ball.....
at this "time" my average was 130~
but hasnt sometimes more the problem that the ball rolls over the thumbs AND finger holes.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

Wow, very nice for a relatively new bowler!

If the ball fits properly, try putting your thumb nail against the back of the hole. If the ball feels like it's going to fall off your hand, you'll need to put a little tape in the thumb hole.

thank you. this is a chocolate approach and throw. if i would look all time that cool i would more proud of it :P

as all beginners thinking their thumbholes are wayyyyyy to small iam now at the point where my ball wouldnt fall of my hand if i were dead.

my 1st ball has 5 tapes in it, my 2nd has 8 tapes in it.

iam very sensitive to the fit of my ball.
my PSO spends hours, days and a bunch of testball holes.

but we didnt hit with the second ball the fit of my first one.
with my dare devil everything feels so natural, i can play all night long without any issue. measured 10 times all angles of thumb and fingers.

but i could blind say with a blink of an eye which ball i have in my hand.

still searching the same fit.
if we find it, i will switch immediately to a switchgrip system.

i found the sticky PDFs from Slowinski yet und will read what i can find from him.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

You have what I call, a death grip on the ball. You are rotating the ball while your thumb is still in it.

Look at :45 seconds into the video. At that point in time, your thumb should have already exited the ball. Let the ball go into the floor, then follow through.

Here's a video of one of the best bowlers I've ever known. At :07 look at the release. Thumb is gone, ball releases into the floor.

Thats exactly what I saw, he isn't clearing the thumb soon enough. This is causing him to release the ball on the upswing and over-rotate.

It could be death grip caused by a poor fit. It could just death grip.

Re: Negativ Axis Tilt....

I agree that your thumb is coming out late and causing over rotation. I think I also see that you have studied the elements of a good approach and are emulating those things well, but in a forced and methodical way. I do not see feel and rhythm. Free it up and feel it. Set up and shut down your mind and let it happen...don't make it happen.
