Positive finger weight?

Would 3/4 oz finger weight be better than 1/8 oz finger weight?

Re: Positive finger weight?

Thought that when ball hits pocket ( pin) it goes from side weight to finger wt. - for follow through ( drive)?

If It loses side roll and is rolling end over end, if you had 3/4 once finger weight or thumb weight wouldn't it all be rolling the same direction by your thought process? So 1/4 finger and 3/4 thumb or any combination of the two would still be 1 once on the same path.

Re: Positive finger weight?

Ball has No thumb weight , 1/4 oz side weight and 3/8 oz finger weight now. If it had more finger weight just wondering if it would have more backend?

Re: Positive finger weight?

We have explained to you before that statics mean virtually nothing in today's equipment. Why do you keep bringing it up. When you ask Trey or his father that runs a shop, what do they say?

What ball? Is it a “modern” resin ball?

While old school learning taught us one thing, the new school is a totally different thing, and the thoughts about what truly effects ball motion are different now.

The old ways said yes, more finger weight will give you more length and backend, but the thing is that in today’s game, static weights are so far down the list of reasons a ball does what it does, that they have become virtually inconsequential.

IF IT WERE ME, and I had a choice, I would go with more finger weight, but simply for psychological reasons. While I would “know” that it didn’t matter, there would still be that little “what if” running around in my mind that can create doubt, and you really just don’t need to doubt yourself OR your equipment.

If more finger weight makes you feel better about it, then, by all means, have them drill it with more, but it will be a psychological change more than an actual change, and may make you not blame the ball as much.
  Thanks from:

Statics are only relevant with balls that use pancake cores. These days except for two resin balls and most plastic ones, no balls use pancake cores. The two exceptions are the Columbia Scout and the Lane Masters Tempest.

For all other balls, static weights, top, finger, thumb can be ignored when assessing and drilling balls. Even most urethanes today use a dynamic (non-pancake) cores.
