Swapping balls with a buddy

I have a good friend/bowling buddy who has the same span I do and nearly the same size fingers. He gave me back a ball I bought for him 2 years ago and I had the thumb pitch changed to 1/4 reverse. Its a 14 pound Soul Mate and seems perfect for me. I have been over 600 every time I have bowled with it, in three different houses. I gave him a 13 pound Vintage Gold Rhino Pro I bought but never really got comfortable with. He had the thumb slug drilled out larger and has bowled near or over 200 with it. Now we have another friend bowling with us who has the same span as my friend, and is using his urethane balls and just started finger tip with them. His average is up 20 pins just with the switch to finger tip.

Our driller is amazed that the three of us have the same span and can switch who bowls what so easily. Is it that uncommon?

Re: Swapping balls with a buddy

Thanks to fitting tape my buddy uses my stuff on a regular basis. Its like he has 6 different balls at his disposal but only has to drag 3 to league. Good for him but since my thumb is larger not so good for me because I feel a ball only has so much time before it is done.

Funny you should mention bowling balls having an expiration window. I mentioned that to a long time bowler today and he got really peeved about my saying that. I can't remember where I saw it, but I do remember reading that high performance balls are considered to be used up at 90-100 games. Anything that new has never been my hands except a new Pitch Blue which was a major disappointment.

I just gave a teammate my old Fab Ball Hammer. He just changed the finger grips, and is still using my thumb slug (switch grip). That thing hits like a truck, a big truck at
that! It even sounds different that other ball when they hit. I'd like to have on in a 14#

There was just one on ebay but I think it didn't sell this auction. You might take a look see. Just go online to ebay, sporting goods, bowling balls and put in 14 lb hammer and see what comes up. I buy there frequently keeping my buddies supplied.

I recently had a Blast Zone drilled for me and as you say, it hits like a truck with a very different sound than my reactive equipment. Old isn't necessarily bad.

Ever been to a demo day? Spans are usually 4", 4.25", 4.5", and 4.75".

Most people don't have a good fit so it's not surprising.

Yes I have and decided it was useless. You can't really tell how a ball performs if it doesn't fit and you are on burned up lanes.
