Got to figure this out! and I will

Our league secretary posts all our scores, standings etc. on the league secretary site. I just checked the av. boater section to find that my av. for game one is 194, game two 183, and game three 169. Good thing I don't have to bowl 3 or 5 games lol. I should be able to fix this now that I realize where I suck the most. I think I slow down as the night rolls on. Part of getting old I guess. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I bet the lanes get drier as the night goes on too, Roy. Maybe try an oilier breakpoint, farther inside in game 3. Adjust angle and ball surface to match. On an overblocked house shot, inside can be WAY wet! If so, you need to find the right angle to exit the puddle into the dry at the right distance downlane. This kind of line will not require a lot of speed.

Keep us updated and we may learn something.

I have the same problem, though it may have some relation to the number of rum and cokes I drink as the night rolls on.

Equation:
(Time Bowled) x (No. of Drinks) + (Level of Aggravation) (Current Avg.) -10 pins =
Avg. Score per game

Change ball choice and stance on approach? Anyways, that's what I usually do, not that it helps all the time.

Those are exactly the adjustments I've been making. I can get the ball to the hole, but my pin carry goes south. I start leaving splits etc. I don't have a lot of revs, so when I move in I have to adjust my speed downward to get the ball to the pocket, then it deflects too much. I'm thinking third game of just throwing the XXXL straight up 3 with a bit of speed. That has worked for me in the past, but never thought I needed to try it now.
I'm lucky enough to be able to convert most of my spares unless they're splits which all to often they are lately. As I said, I have some work to do.
Thanks for the input Lou. Question: When I move in and slow up a bit would a ball with some surface normally be better, or polished? I'm mainly talking pin carry. I can usually find a way to get any ball to the pocket from any line, just can't always carry well.

It's like a totally different shot when you move into the puddle. More surface could help with deflection if you stay in that oil. If you angle through the oil from deep inside out to about 8, the friction there could be enough to power you.

For me, it was a lay down point at the foul line between 28 and 35 and out to friction between 10 and 8 at the 10 board hash (cheater board). Also did OK not going right of 12 on really dry nights using a ball that back ends hard off the friction at the end of the pattern.

You are observant and innovative, so you will reinvent your style

That sounds good Lou. Also, that line is about my ten pin conversion line, but with my spare ball (Manhattan Rubber) from the 50's. Maybe I just need to move left and throw my reactive ball at the 10. In the past, at times I have used the reflection of the ten as my target. I really need to get back to throwing more practice games. I make a really high percentage of my corner spares, but I tend to chop the front pins off late when my speed has dropped. I know what to do about that just haven't done it, don't know why.

Thanks for the advice Lou, all good I know. I'll be working on it. Another thing I need to watch out for is making too many adjustments at once. Thinking back, I think I have moved inside, changed balls, and changed speed all at one time. Thanks again bro.

Have you ever try urethane ? And perhaps go little straighter to the pocket ? Or try 90 by 2 1/4 by 50 on dull ball?

First thing I thought of as a matter of fact. I haven't bowled since I read my av. for each game. I do have a Lane#1 Liberator that I'll pull out in the second game Thursday. Thanks for the input. You and your family have a Merry Christmas.

Re: Got to figure this out! and I will

I have improved in the second and third games. Not tearing it up but over average. Just ended the first half of our league and won the first half after being 16th. out of 18 teams 5 or 6 weeks ago. As a team we've been bowling pretty well lately. Best of luck to all of you as well. Also, Have a happy, safe, and prosperous new year.
