Finger Grip Sizes Question

I am looking to pick up some new grips for my balls and to keep on hand. The question I have is the inside of my grips say 47 and the other says 11. Does anyone know what the sizes of these grips are from those numbers?

Thanks,
BVR

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

Do you prefer your finger inserts tight, or a little on the loose side? Mine are a bit tight. How much difference does it really make?

Tight is right, as long as not too tight.

It is really a preference and varies from bowler to bowler. With that being said, I am one of those bowlers that like the grips just a wee-wee bit loose, but not too loose.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

Another thing you NEED to know about is drill size.
For instance, Turbo Quads, all sizes, require a 31/32" hole. whereas Vise grip sizes require different size for inserts above size 25 (I think!) but they do require different size holes for larger sizes.

Sorry, didn't mean to quote you with that answer. Must have been doing to many things at once and not paying attention. Thought I was quoting the original poster and giving my opinion. No offense intended.

No offense taken RRay. I was just curious about the difference in a tight, and a loose grip as far as the amount of lift on the ball. It does make sense that a little tight would be better.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

For me personally it doesn't effect my lift much, but the tighter the grips the less tendency I have to squeeze the ball. But not too tight as you say. I went through a bunch of trial and error. Full lifts were to tight, ovals were a tad to loose, so I finally settled on Vice Semi Lift's.

Ray, can you describe what the Vice Semi Ovals are?

I have tried Vice Power lifts and I didn't care all that much for them.....too much taper plus they caused me to hit up on the ball too much.

Tried Turbo Power Ovals and sort of did and didn't like them and finally settled on Turbo Quads using the power lift side of them. The Turbo Power Ovals run big in size compared to the Turbo Quads. I probably needed the next size smaller or a bit more on the Power Ovals, but didn't want to waste any more money on them trying to find the right size.

The power lift side of the TurboQuads is 1/8" taper
The power lift side of the Turbo Power Ovals is 3/16" taper and....
The power lift side of the regular Vice is 1/4" taper.

To sum it up, are the Vice Semi Lifts 3/16" taper and similar to Turbo Power Ovals which are 3/16" taper?.....Or they a completely different type grip, do you know?

I'm not sure of the measurements as you have described, but the vice semi lifts are slightly different than the turbo's for me. I used to use turbo's but just couldn't find the right feel. the vice semi's seem closer in feel to the oval's but with just enough taper to give a nice fit without feeling to tight or loose and not giving to much lift but just enough. I would probably compare them to the turbo power ovals in the same size but not as loose of a fit. That was my problem with turbo. In my size the power lifts were to tight and to much taper, the power ovals were a tad to loose. If I went to the next size down they were to tight. Other than that they probably would have worked fine. When I went to the vice semi lifts they fit just right. The vice ovals were a tad to loose and like you described the vice power lifts made me hit the ball much more than I needed. So I would say that the vice semi lifts are similar to the turbo power ovals with the same amount of taper, but with a much nicer fit. Not so tight that you feel like you'll get caught up in them with the release, but not so loose that you feel like you have to hold the ball tight so as not to drop it to soon, and with the right amount of lift. You can also have the size of the finger holes adjusted to help the grips fit better.
I don't know why but I have found that some finger holes when drilled are different sizes from ball to ball, or shop to shop. If you like what grips you are using but they feel to tight, you can have the holes opened up a little with the bevel sander and that will loosen up your grips some when they are glued in.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

I personally like mine tight. I have the pilot hole drilled 1/64 larger then glue the bottoms & just the front edge. The rubber can then stretch to conform to my fingers & remain snug. Almost like vacu-grips, but they are not.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

Ray, thanks for your input. With what I have experienced and what you described, it sounds like we are both in the same boat and also experienced some same things with some of the grips.

Where you said ....So I would say that the vice semi lifts are similar to the turbo power ovals with the same amount of taper, but with a much nicer fit. Not so tight that you feel like you'll get caught up in them with the release, but not so loose that you feel like you have to hold the ball tight so as not to drop it to soon, and with the right amount of lift.... you have described what I feel I am looking for if they will give me a better fit than the Turbo Power Ovals.

I'm going to see if my pro shop can get me a pair of the Vice Semi Lifts to try in a ball and go from there. Since I use 13/16 and 25/32 in the Turbo Quads, I'll try the same size for a start in the Vice and go from there.

Thanks for the information.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

I know what you mean about inserts....last week I was bowling better than I had in weeks....237, 221 and then my fingers began to swell just a bit..I had trouble getting the ball off my fingers...finished game three with a 201....nice series for me but it could have been better. Next day took the ball to my pro shop guy. He noted that several of my balls have the same size inserts, but they fit looser. He drilled the finger holes out some and put the same inserts back in and viola! Last night 634 series but it wasn't till game three that I figured out I should be playing the first arrow, 243. Maybe someday we'll get it all dialed in.

No problem. I use 25/32 and 23/32 and stayed with the same size in Vice. I think you'll like them alot. Let us know how they work out for you.

Re: Finger Grip Sizes Question

Ray, I am trying to find the lift you use. Here are 3 types from Buddies. (going to try to get them thru one of my pro shops, but looking at Buddies for identification)

Here are 3 from Buddies....

http://www.buddiesproshop.com/produc...Lift__Oval.htm

http://www.buddiesproshop.com/produc..._Lift_Oval.htm

http://www.buddiesproshop.com/produc...Lift__Semi.htm

Which is the corredt one? I'm guessing the last one or is it the middle one?

It looks like the last one's you listed with the semi's in the pic. I'm pretty sure that's what you are looking for.
