Any Tips for shipping Bowling balls?

Hey All, I need to ship some bowling balls to get fixed up. I am wondering what is the way everyone normally uses.

I figured I would send 4 at a time so I can still use some during leagues etc

So do you get individual boxes that fit each ball, then pack them into another box that will fit all 4 together? Do you use any packing material?

I was checking on prices, and priority mail (3days) from USPS would be a little over $100 for 4 balls. UPS and FedEx were about 60-70ish for ground shipping (5 days). Much higher for anything higher then that.

I need to find some boxes and such, but didn't know what I should look for, or where to find "perfect" boxes

Go with UPS ground. they usually deliver before the estimated date if not close to it and you can track it everywhere it goes. Theyve been good to me so far. As for boxes check your local grocery stores they usually have some good ones.

if you cannot find boxes at the alley (which they should have some) go to office depot they sell a a 9 x 9 x 9 box, perfect for a bowling ball (actually perfect for a box the balls come in) if you can get to the alley get ball boxes and a 4 ball shipping box, they are a perfect fit. insure the package as well, only cost s few more but you will be covered in the event of a lost package or a damaged package

Yeah, for sure I was going to insure them I did my intial price checking based off $1000 insurance for 4 balls.

I'll have to check some bowling alleys around. I have a couple of ball boxes, but not enough.

what balls are going? just for the record, just because you insure them for 250/each doesnt mean ups will pay that kind of cash. you need to prove cost and then show replacement cost on them. so be realistic in the number, cause you will just end up paying for insurance that ups wont back

Re: Any Tips for shipping Bowling balls?

oh I figure. I just wanted a numer to base the three prices on. Most stuff I have is Lane#1 balls, but I won't have cost+plus drilling reciepts I don't think. So in total I was paying like $220-240 per ball. Of course some are a couple of years old now, so I am sure they are not worth that much. My old driller charged quite a bit on drilling prices. Most the time he would give me some small breaks sometimes.

My first batch would probably be my Buzzbomb, Black Cherry Bomb, Super Carbide Bomb, and a Lanemaster XS Power. The next batch will be my Solid Uranium, Crystal Diamond, Raging Inferno, and Supernova

So I will be able to lower my insurance price a bit, but it dosen't make a huge difference in shipping prices. At least on the websites it doesn't.
