Kegel's "Highway to Hell"

The laneman had this pattern laid down from last night and he told me fool around with it. The pattern ended up making me look like a fool.

It's a flat 40' pattern oil 2 to38. Outside of 8 and it's not coming back. Outside of 4 is gutter. I first tried to attack it right down the 9-10 and I had one Jersey (I'm east of the Hudson) strike, 3 washouts and and some nose hits which left splits.

I tried the twig once, guttered, gave up and moved to the middle.

Next attempt was going 20 to 12 with more hand trying not to go past 10. I found some success there but was still inconsistant. There is no hold whatsoever if you missed inside and if I hit the 10 board, the ball would not recover.

I finally gave up, moved one pair over to the "Highway to Heaven" and stuck on 22 of 27. My ego was back to normal.

Has anyone played this pattern and what's the best way to attach it? The pattern seems to make the lane only about 28 boards and has very little room for error.

Re: Kegel's "Highway to Hell"

i always liked stronger covers up the ditch to start...then weaker covers with tame layouts in the middle for transition

Re: Kegel's "Highway to Hell"

Straight with an aggressive ball is the only way to go. My house shot ressembles this type of layout actually, because theyre too lazy to do it any other way or something, i always play straight up about 10, with my most aggressive balls.

Re: Kegel's "Highway to Hell"

Played on the Highway to hell last month at a tournament. Decided to play it exactly how I play the US Open pattern since it's the closest you can get to that without actually bowling on the US open pattern.

Started with my feet on 25, targeting 19 at the arrows, about 11 at the breakpoint. Started with a pin-down Attitude Shift. From there, the field migrated left and it opened up a bit but still very tough pattern. Ended up with a T-Road Pearl around the same area...I didn't move too too much but would shell down every game or so. You need to be soft with it at the bottom and definitely not grab it. Average 203 for 5 games which I was geeked with. it's a toughie that's for damn sure

That's what I figured when I decided to play it inside.

I noticed that right away. There's no inside hold and the ball would crossover.

Good shooting!
