Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

I was looking at finger protection tape, and I know Wes Malott uses a bunch of it. So I went to see if on Roto Grip's website if I could see his layouts and if he uses inserts (I'm thinking about going natural).

I found this layout that he used to bowl a 290. I didn't think much of it until I started looking at the tracks in the ball, right between the fingers and thumb!
Is he really a full roller?

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

Since his PAP is listed as 4 5/8" over and 1" up, I think he's still in semi-roller territory.

If the initial track was betwixt the fingers and thumb, it would have to be heavily inclined (the up or down measurement in the PAP) in relation to the 90 degrees from the center grip line.

Having thrown a fuller roller, my throw looks nothing like his (I means besides the accuracy and power thing).

I'm guessing he's just thinking (successfully) outside the box on a difficult pattern.

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

That's not full roller.

That's just his grip line/finger lines etched into the ball for layout purposes. Many pro shops do this when laying out the balls.

It's not relevant to his track.

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

Urb, I don't think he was referring to the scribe marks. I think he was referring to the track lines (the white lines diagonal to the grip). Although I could be wrong. To me the PAP doesn't indicate a full roller, but when I look at the track lines or what appear to be track lines then I can see why you would think so.

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

I see what you're saying now.

Yea that could be perceived as a full roller I guess.

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

thats nothing close to a full roller lay out. its just a negitive pin. and if he was a full roller i think they would mention it on TV once in a while. i dont see why he uses finger tape its the most uncomfortable stuff ever!

Re: Wes Mallot a Full Roller??

I have bowled with Wes in person, he is definitely not a full roller. Looks like maybe his ball got stuck in the accelerator with a pin, and picked up a bit of rubber?

Could be...and pins are coated with Surlyn, it's actually a resin not rubber. Many golf balls are coated with it as well.

Indeed sir, but picked up a bit of surlyn just doesn't roll of the tongue as easily.

Didn't doubt your knowledge, it's a technicality, but rubber coated pins would definitely increase scoring.
