Re: Columbia Total Bedlam

I drilled my Total Bedlam using the Dual-Angle layout system at 45/40/4" Pin-to-PAP and adjusted the surface to 1000 grit Abralon, with a weight hole near the PSA. Out of box, I had some trouble getting the reaction that I desired. The core of the Bedlam and Total Bedlam creates a great deal of length down the lanes and no shortage of backend. Me, being a high speed, high rev player with a very low track, the Total Bedlam was a little too long for my liking out-of-box. After adjusting the surface I am tremendously happy with the reaction of the Total Bedlam. The new Full Tilt 6.0 coverstock helps create a tremendous amount of track flare and gives this ball an amazingly strong arcing reaction that hits hard on heavier lane conditions. By no means will this ball be one that I use on shorter patterns or when the lanes dry up, but works great when my Power Swing or Full Swing are too long or too angular. I rated the Total Bedlam a 4 because I like the way the ball reads the midlane and gives a strong and continuous backend, however I still like the strength downlane that I get from my Full Swing.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Grit - OOb, 5/4
Type (Matte, Polish, Sanded) - Smooth sanded

LANE CONDITION
Length - 42'

Volume - Heavy, 60 units in the middle
Type (Wall, Xmas Tree, Sport) - THS

BALL REACTION
Length - Overall good length considering the 500, 500, 500, 4000 sanding process. The 4000 really gets it down lane, but the 500 scratches beneath it still give it some bite
Back End - Devestating backend. When it catches any dry at all it makes a super hard flip
Overall Hook - Strong overall hook, on a fresh pattern I was 5 boards left with my feet and 3 boards right with my eyes compared to where I start the night with my Motiv Gt1
Midlane Read - Strong mid-lane read, really revs up strong
Breakpoint Shape - More angular than I was expecting, I actually left a couple 9 pins because it really gets down lane and gives me a hockey stick look.

COMMENTS
Carry - Carry wasn't an issue really. Only a couple ten pins, which I adjusted for and a couple 9 pins when my speed came down a little. Solid pocket shots left nothing on the deck
Likes - Carry, strength of the reaction; when this thing makes the turn it really comes hard off the spot.
Dislikes - Cover was getting a noticeable sheen on it from the oil by time the 3rd game came around. Even after wiping it down after every ball with a microfiber it was polishing up. As a result, it started squirting through the carry down later in the night resulting in some really weak pocket hits.

Other - Overall a really good ball. It doesn't give you much miss room though, if you pull it it's going to come in high or brooklyn, get it outside too fast it'll come flying back high; if you're on with it....it comes back super strong with no quit through the pocket at all. I wish I had gone ahead and drilled it for more of a skid/flip reaction opposed to the stronger drilling I put on it. The result of my drilling is still a skid/flip look, but the drilling makes it want to take off earlier, kind of flattened out on the back a few times. I think drilling it for more backend would have delayed that reaction and really made the ball shine.
