Re: Ideas for Bowling Tournaments

there is all sorts of formats, your goal is to get the lower average guys involved, some of what we are going to do is limit averages, IE doubles singles and team events

360 doubles two bowlers combined average of 360, make it handicap and let the fun begine
570 trios same as above
baker team tourney, bakers rule and make it fun for everyone

above all try to get a decent first place prize that way guys want to come,
I can hear everyone now what about scratch, not against them, but scratch keeps the 200 guys away and the handicap guys unless they are baggers stay away too, so you end up with20-30 guys every month, and for that turn out you might as well just run a monthly sweeper

be creative and find ways like I said to get the mid average guys involved

Re: Ideas for Bowling Tournaments

Our house has some kind of Tournament going on all time for the most part..

There's a 9 pin no tap (90% or 200 handicap, though, I think it should be lower) (can be done on a sport, slightly more challenging pattern)

An 8 pin, so knocking down 8,9, or 10 on the first ball is a strike. (88% of 188) (8 games, 2 each on 4 different patterns)

40 frame game

Doubles

Scratch King of the Hills (sport/custom patterns)

Most of these have multiple squads spanning over a month or two, the 40 frame is open to do during the entire summer....so things like that usually get a pretty good overall turnout instead of just a one time, day of deal.

Re: Ideas for Bowling Tournaments

I've been doing a king of the hill here. Rake in a bunch of bowlers, seed the top 5, top 4 go home with prize money. King gets to bowl for free in the next tournament.

Steve Harmon ran a tournament called the indianapolis open. He did day 1 qualifying on short. Day 2 on long. and Finals 1 lane short 1 lane long.

Re: Ideas for Bowling Tournaments

Our summer King of the Hill series has the final week with the 50ft on one lane and 33 ft on the other...You had to bowl in half (6) of the weeks to qualify. They were held on wednesdays, so turn out wasn't as good as in the Fall. We get about 20-25 each week now, but around 60 during the fall/spring series I believe. You're only 2.5 hours away TFA, come bowl some up here! :-p

There is a lot of appeal in putting out different shots and doing things that aren't common. So mixing it up and trying some interesting things should pull some people in for you as well.
